Coffee

There are two types of coffee mainly grown in India ie. “Arabica” at higher elevation and “Robusta” at lower elevation. It requires humid climate well distributed rainfall about 2000 mm anually and temperature range of 15-25 C at higher elevation and 20-30 C at lower elevation. Production of berry is mostly determined by blossom rain(February -April) and backing rain(April-May) . Statewise progress is given as under:

The major producing districts in the states Karnataka( Haveri, Chikmanglur and Kodagu) , Kerala(Kasargod, Kannur, Palakkad and Wayanad) and Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore, Salem, Dhamapuri and Dindigul) received blossom rain from March-April and backing rain from April-May after pruning that is done in January-February . The rains received upto June and forecasted rain is very much congenial for the berry development .
The present weather conditions are also very favourable for planting of fresh seedling .

Arhar

Uttar Pradesh

Among the major growing districts Kher, Bhariach, Barabanki, Balia, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Allahabad, Paratapgarh, Chitrakoot, Banda, Fatehpur, Kanpur, Jaloan, Aligarh and Bulandshar the long duration arhar is sown from middle of June to middle of July. The widespread rains received and forecasted rain is very much congenial for the early growth of the crop.
The short duration Arhar is sown in Aligarh and Bulandshar under irrigated condition in the first week of June. The present weather condition and forecasted weather condition is favourable for the growth of the crop.


Maharashtra
The widespread rainfall received and forecasted weather condition in the districts Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Akola, Washim, Jalna, Jalgaon, Beed, Osmanabad, Nanded and Parbhani is very much favourable for early development of the crop.

Karnataka
The forecasted rains among the districts Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bellary, Bijapur, Belgaum, Dharwad, Devngere, Chitradurga, Tumkur and Kolar will be congenial for the early growth of the crop.

Madhya Pradesh

Soybean

Madhya Pradesh
Among the major soybean producing districts Shivpuri, Guna, Vidisha, Rajgarh, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Ujjain, Indore, Dewas, Shajapur, Harda, Khandwa, Seoni, Chindwara, Balaghat, Hosangabad, Sehore and Raisen received widespread rainfall and mild rain forecasted will be very much helpful for the early growth of the crop.

Crop Weather Report 16/07/2010


Guar
The temperature regime of 27-35 C is required for growth and development. It can tolerate both shade and frost . It is photosensitive and flowering occurs when it is sown in kharif season. Crop perform well where rainfall ranges 250-500 mm and under sandy soil.
The statewise progress is given as under:

Rajasthan
Among the major growing districts the cumulative rainfall for past ten days was Ganganagar(37mm), Hanumangarh(40mm), Churu(32mm) , Bikaner(15mm) , Jaipur(38 mm), Sikar(35mm) , Jhunjhunu(35mm) , Jaiselmer(30mm) , Barmer(45mm) , Jodhpur(35mm) and Dausa( 54mm) and temperature ranges between 26-40 C . The weather conditions for the past ten days have been very much congenial for the sowing germination and establishment of the crop except for Bikaner where rainfall was very low.

Gujarat
The major guar producing districts received cumulative rainfall for ten days, Patan(59mm), Sabarkantha(53mm) , Mahesena(49mm) , Banaskantha(67mm) and Kachchh(106mm) which is very much congenial for the sowing germination and development of the crop. The temperature is also very much helpful.


Haryana
The widespread rainfall in the major growing districts Bhiwani, Mahendragarh, Rewari and Sirsa facilitated sowing and germination of the crop.
However, the recent flood in the Ghaggar have damaged the sown crop. Resowing may be taken after the withdrawal of the flood.

Groundnut
The widespread rain in the state of Gujarat , Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu facilitated the sowing from June. The weather condition in the month of July was also very much helpful for the sowing, germination and growth of the early sown crop. However, late receipt of rain in Punjab (Faridkot, Sangrur), Uttar Pradesh (Bijnor, Jhansi), Rajasthan (Jodhpur, Bikaner, Sikar, Tonk) delayed sowing of groundnut. Turmeric:

Turmeric crop requires warm and humid climate, temperature range 20-30 C and rainfall of 1500 mm .It can be planted from April to July with the receipt of early monsoon shower .

Sugarcane south
Sugarcane requires hot humid climate and 200-300 cm of rainfall for optimum growth .The statewise progress of central and south India is given as under:

Maharashtra
Among the major cane producing districts Pune, Ahmadnagar, Nashik, Sangli, Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur, Osamanabad, Latur, Hingoli, Parbhani and Yavatmal. Cumulative amount of rainfall received for last 10 days varied between and temperature variation was 22-32 C .The weather condition is very much favourable for December-February, October-November and December-February sown crop. The rain and weather condition are also conducive for the planting of July-August crop.

Andhra Pradesh

The major cane producing districts Medak, Nizamabad, Srikakulam, Vizianagram, Vishahapatnam, East Godavari, Krishna, Khammam, Nellore and Chittor fair amount of rainfall received which varied between 80-105 mm and the temperature variation was found between 25-33 C .In the states crop is sown between December and February the high amount of rainfall and favourable weather condition will be really helpful to boost the growth stage which will help for higher production .

Karnataka
The cane producing districts are Bidar, Bellary, Chittradurga, Shimoga, Bagalkot, Belgaum and Bijapur where sowing is done in January -February and July-August.
The cumulative rainfall for the last 10 days varied between 57-165mm and temperature regime was 20-32 C .The prevailing weather conditions is very much congenial for the January-Feburary sown crop and also facilitate the sowing of July-August crop.

Tamil Nadu
The major producing districts Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Villuparam , Perambaur, Cuddalore, Salem, Dharmapuri, Karur, Dindigul, Coimbatore and Erode where cumulative rainfall for the last ten days varied between 80-113mm and temperature 24-34 C
The weather condition is very much favourable for the growth of January-February sown crop.

Soybean
Soybean is a short day plan cultivated in warm and moist climate. The favourable temperature for germination is 15-32 C and for growth 30-33 C and beyond 38 C growth is retarded. Against the above crop requirement the state wise weather condition and rainfall is given below:

Madhya Pradesh

The temperature is also high 27-40 C and comparetively less rainfall may affect the germination and growth of the crop.

Mung
The kharif Mung crop is sown between 15th June-15th July. It requires 15 C for germination and 20-40 C for growth and maturity, It also requires 12-13 hours day length for proper growth.
The major producing states are Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra , Gujarat, Bihar, Rajasthan , Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. In central and southern Indian state rain was received earlier where sowing was done by the end of June. However late receit of rainfall delayed the sowing in North Indian states. For the last ten days monsoon was active in the entire country facilitates growth of early sown crop and also for the sowing.
The recent flood particularly in the states of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan have widely damaged the crop, where submergence happened.

Sugarcane North
In northern India sugarcane sowing is undertaken from February-March. The crop requires annual rainfall of 200-300 cm of rainfall for best growth . The statewise progress as per weather condition are given as under:

Uttar Pradesh
The widespread rainfall among the major cane producing districts for the last 10 days (Saharanpur, Muzaffarpur, Bijnor, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Bulandshar, Aligarh, Badaun,Bijnor,Bareilly, Moradabad, Pilibhit,Kheri, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi,Farrukhabad, Sitapur, Behraich, Balrampur, Gonda, Barabamnki, Faizabad, Basti, Ambedkarnagar, Azamgarh and Maharajganj ) varied between 160-255 mm. The rainfall in tarai region was more. However,the rainfall has been less in few districts. Crop is in tillering and growth stage at present. The forecasted weather conditions are very much congenial for the bumper growth of the crop.

Bihar
Among the cane producing districts (West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj) rain for the last 10 days amounted 170-190 mm which is very much congenial for the growth of the crop.

In the states of Punjab(Gurdaspur,Hoshiarpur) and Haryana(Kaithal, Karnal, Jind, Ambala, Kukshaetra, Yamunanagar, Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak, Faridabad) the widespread rain received in the last 10 days. The very high intensity rain received particularly in Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra and Karnal. In general the rainfall was very much congenial for the growth of the crop. However, wherever, flood water stagnated for a longer period crop will be badly affected.

Maize
Kharif Maize is sown in the month of June-July in most of the states except northern hill where it is sown in the month of April-May. In general , crop requires 10-30 C for the germination and growth but higher temperature is not very much favourable for the crop.The statewise progress is given as under:

Andhra Pradesh
Among the districts Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Krishna, West Godavari, Mahabubnagar, Guntur the cumulative rainfall for the last 10 days varied between 78-100 mm. The widespread rain is very much beneficial for the sowing and growth of the crop.

Among the other maize growing states Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh received fair amount of rainfall in the last 10 days due to active moonsoon. The sowing is in progress although little late. However, proper moisture content will benefit the germination and establishment of the crop.

In Rajasthan state amount of rainfall received among the maize growing districts Chittaurgarh, Udaipur, Banswara, Ajmer, Bundi, Bhilwara, Rajasmand varied between 25-51mm which is less as per requirement of the crop. The persisting high temperature and less rainfall may affect the germination and establishment of the crop .

Sesamum:
Sesamum requires 25-27 C for germination and higher temperature for crop growth and 650 mm of rainfall. Black Pepper
The crop is in flowering which has started from May and will continued upto August,during this period crop requires moderate temperature and light rainfall. The state wise details are given as under :

Kerala
The major pepper producing districts Kannur, Kasargod ,Kozikhode, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Pathanamthitta and Thiruvanthapuram received cumulative rainfall for the last 10 days is 90-100mm which is very much congenial for flowering and berry development, except for Kasargod where rainfall was 249 mm which may affect the crop. Similarly the low rainfall in Trivandrum may also affect the berry formation.

Tamil Nadu
Among the major pepper producing districts Namakkal, Nilgiris and Dindigul. The rainfall received in past 10 days is 65 mm which is beneficial for the berry development.
The rainfall and moderate temperature continuing in both the states is favorable for the planting of
rooted cutting for fresh crop.

Cardamom
Flowering in cardamom commences from April-May and continue till July-Aug .The statewise progress
is as under:

Kerala
Among the cardamom producing districts rainfall for the last 10 days varied between 92-118 mm except for Kasargod where rainfall was 249 mm. In general, the mild temperature and light rainfall in most of the districts will highly benefit the berry development.

Tamil Nadu
Among the cardamom producing districts Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Teni. The rainfall is relatively less ie. Coimbatore(48mm), Nilgiris(65mm), Teni(70mm) in the last 10 days. Widespread rainfall and moderate humid condition are beneficial for the flowering and berry development.

Karnataka

Cashew
Cashew crop best adopted to costal regions and requires rainfall 600-4500 mm rainfall .The suitable temperature is 28 C is best for growth however, it can tolerate the temperature upto 36 C.
The major producing states are Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu , Orissa, Maharashtra received wide rainfall from June-July. Since harvesting season February-May is over.Now cashew plant requires removal of water shoots , lower branches and criss-cross branches so that fresh flush appears before flowering.

Arhar
Arhar is a drought tolerant crop , photo-period sensitive and requires moist and humid condition for good vegetative growth. The conducive temperature is 15-20 C and requires 650 mm rainfall .
Against the above requirement of the crop statewise progress is given below:

Uttar Pradesh

Maharashtra
The widespread rainfall in the districts Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Akola, Washim, Jalna, Jalgaon, Beed, Osmanabad, Nanded and Parbhani ,the arhar sowing is in progress. The forecasted weather conditions are very much favourable for germination and establishment of the crop as temperature variation is 23-35 C.

Karnataka
The widespread early rains among the districts Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bellary, Bijapur, Belgaum, Dharwad, Devngere, Chitradurga, Tumkur and Kolar facilitated the sowing of the crop. The moderate temperature 19-34 C and forecasted rainfall will be helpful for the growth of the crop.

Gujarat

Cotton
Sowing of cotton crop in the state of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan undertaken in the 4th week of May to first week of June .The early sown crop can tolerate the temperature upto 40-45 C. As per report available,the crop was very good .The recent widespread rainfall help in the vegetative growth of the crop which is not affected due to flood.
The recent flood particularly in Punjab and Haryana where flood water stagnated and submerged ,the crop will be seriously damaged.

Gujarat

Kharif Onion:
Kharif onion crop requires 10-11 hr. sunshine,20-25 C for seedling growth and 15-21 C for vegetative growth.

Maharastra

Among the districts(Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune and Satara). The temperature is varying between 22-35 C. The present weather condition and the rainfall will be highly beneficial for transplanting and establishment of onion seedling.

Andhra Pradesh
Onion is transplanted among the districts Srikakulam, Mahbubnagar, Kurnool and Cuddapah in the month of May and June .The temperature is varying between 22-35 C and regular rainfall will benefit the crop growth.

Tamil Nadu
Onion transplanting is completed in April-May in the district Coimbatore, Teni, Namakkal, Salem and Dharmapuri . The temperature is varying between 25-36 C and RH 80-90 %.The rainfall received and prevailing weather conditions will facilitated the growth of crop.

Karnataka

Tamil Nadu

Urad:
