Cotton

Punjab
In the major growing area of Punjab (Faridkot, Muktsar, Bhatinda, Ferozpur and Mansa), Cotton crop is in growth stage .The prevailing humid hot weather condition and very good cumulative rainfall for the last ten days have facilitated vegetative growth of the crop which will help for square formation and flowering.

In the central zone, the states of Gujarat , Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra received widespread rainfall which facilitated sowing of cotton crop in the last week of June and first week of July. The continuing hot and humid condition and well distributed rainfall facilitated the growth and development of the crop . It is expected that during this year cotton production will be increased.

Andhra Pradesh
Among the major districts Adilabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Guntur, Nalgonda and Warangal the cumulative rainfall for last ten days varied between 75-123mm and the temperature variation was between 24-33 C which is very much congenial for the early-growth stage of the cotton crop.

Sugarcane North
Sugarcane planting is done in northern Indian states in February and March and sometime late in March-April after wheat harvesting. It is also planted in January-February in Bihar. The widespread rainfall and prevailing humid and hot condition is very much congenial for the growth of the crop.

The favourable condition may boost up the production of the sugarcane. Good production of sugarcane is expected in Northern India.

Turmeric
Turmeric crop requires warm and humid climate, temperature range 20-30 C and rainfall of 1500 mm . It is planted from April to July with the receipt of early monsoon shower .

The major producing states are Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Dhamapuri, Villupparam and Vellore), Andhra Pradesh (Kurnool, Guntur, East Godavari, West Godavari, Warangal, Krishna, Rangareddy, Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar and Chuddapah), Karnataka (Belgaun, Bagalkot, Mysore and Chamrajnagar), Maharashtra(Sangli and Satara) and Orissa (Koratpur, Kalahandi, Pulbani, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kendujhargarh and Balasur). The early sown crop is in vegetative phase .The widespread rainfall among the above states and humid hot condition prevailing is very much congenial for proper growth of early sown crop and will also help for establishment and development of late sown crop. It is expected that production will be increased during this season.

Soyabean
Soybean is a short day plant. It completes its life cycle in 100 days under Indian condition whereas it completes its lifecycle in 180 days in other countries where yield level is very high. It require frequent rainfall for growth and high RH for seed development and dry period for maturity .Delay sowing beyond 15th of July drastically reduces the yield level in India . Continous rain, overcasted condition helps in the spread of soybean mosaic disease. The statewise progress is given as under :

Madhya Pradesh

Among the major producing districts (Shivpuri, Guna, Vidisha, Rajgarh, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Dhar, Ujjain, Indore, Dewas, Shajapur, Harda, Khandwa, Seoni, Chindwara, Balaghat, Hosangabad, Sehore and Raisen), the cumulative rainfall for the last ten days varied between 55-122 mm , temperature varied between 23-32 C and RH 80-90 % . The rains are also forecasted upto end of July. The above weather condition is very much congenial for the initial growth and development of soybean

Maharashtra
The major soybean producing area (Wardha, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Nanded, Yavatmal, Amravati, Sangli, Satara, Latur, Osmanabad, Kolhapur, Beed, Jalna, Parbhani, Nashik, Ahmadnagar, Buldhana, Jalgaon, Hingoli and Akola . Received 60-200mm rainfall and temperature varied 21-31 C and RH 90-95 % . The weather conditions has been very much favourable and forecasted weather will be helpful for the growth and development of the crop which may boost the production.


Rajasthan
The major producing districts Pali, Rajasmand, Baran, Kota, Chittaurgarh, Jhalawar, Barmer and Udaipur . The cumulative rainfall for ten days varied between 30-60 mm and exception is Barmer where rainfall was only 15 mm ,temperature is also comparatively high .The prevailing weather condition is not very much congenial due to high temperature and poor rainfall which may affect the crop growth.

Coffee
The major producing districts in the states Karnataka( Haveri, Chikmanglur and Kodagu) , Kerala(Kasargod, Kannur, Palakkad and Wayanad) and Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore, Salem, Dhamapuri and Dindigul) received good amount of rainfall for the last ten days and the rainfall pattern will be continued. The weather condition is favourable for the berry development.

Black Pepper

Crop Weather Report 22/07/2010


Tea

Among the major tea producing districts of Kerala(Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, Kottayam, Kollam, Wayanad and Thiruvanthapuram) and Karnataka (Hassan, Chikmagalur and Medikari) received heavy rainfall for the last ten days and it is forecasted that both the above states will get rainfall in coming fortnight .The weather condition is very much favourable for the regular flush for July-August picking of fresh buds and leaves.

The mild rains received in the districts of Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Madurai and Nilgiri) will also be useful for July-August picking of leaves .

The weather condition is very much congenial for the growth of fresh transplanted tea seedlings which is done in April-May.

The major tea producing districts of Himachal Pradesh(Mandi, Kangra and Chamba) and Assam(Darrang, lakhimpur, Karbianglong, Goalpara, NorthCacharslill, Dibrugara, Cachar and Naraon ) where plucking is done weekly from April-December. Andhra Pradesh

Cotton:
The widespread rain received in the major growing districts of Punjab( Faridkot, Bhatinda, Mansa, Ferozpur, Mukhtsar) will facilitate square formation and growth of the crop wherever crop is not affected due to flood, the weather condition is very much congenial for crop development as a whole.

Cardamom

Gujarat

The cumulative last ten days rainfall and weather condition for castor crop have been very optimum for proper growth and development of early sown crop and also for rainfed sowing in the major producing districts Banaskantha(21.3mm), kachchh(24.8mm), Patan(29.3mm), Mahesana(39.4mm), Sabarkantha(54.8mm), Junagarh(44.6mm), Rajkot(47.3mm), Suredranagar(49.5mm), Ahemdabad(35.6mm), Kheda(55.3mm), Gandhinagar(35.6mm) and Vadodara(91.8mm).

Rajasthan

The rains received for the last ten days is congenial for the sowing of rainfed crop in Rajasthan in most of the castor producing districts except Jodhpur and Barmer where rainfall has been limited .However, it is forecasted that rain may also be received in Jodhpur and Barmer districts which may be helpful to complete the sowing. Coffee

There are two types of coffee mainly grown in India ie. “Arabica” at higher elevation and “Robusta” at lower elevation. It requires humid climate well distributed rainfall about 2000 mm anually and temperature range of 15-25 C at higher elevation and 20-30 C at lower elevation. Production of berry is mostly determined by blossom rain(February -April) and backing rain(April-May) . Statewise progress is given as under:

The major producing districts in the states Karnataka( Haveri, Chikmanglur and Kodagu) , Kerala(Kasargod, Kannur, Palakkad and Wayanad) and Tamil Nadu (Coimbatore, Salem, Dhamapuri and Dindigul) received blossom rain from March-April and backing rain from April-May after pruning that is done in January-February . The rains received upto June and forecasted rain is very much congenial for the berry development .

Arhar

Uttar Pradesh

Among the major growing districts Kher, Bhariach, Barabanki, Balia, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Allahabad, Paratapgarh, Chitrakoot, Banda, Fatehpur, Kanpur, Jaloan, Aligarh and Bulandshar the long duration arhar is sown from middle of June to middle of July. The widespread rains received and forecasted rain is very much congenial for the early growth of the crop.
The short duration Arhar is sown in Aligarh and Bulandshar under irrigated condition in the first week of June. The present weather condition and forecasted weather condition is favourable for the growth of the crop.


Maharashtra

Guar
The temperature regime of 27-35 C is required for growth and development. It can tolerate both shade and frost . It is photosensitive and flowering occurs when it is sown in kharif season. Crop perform well where rainfall ranges 250-500 mm and under sandy soil.
The statewise progress is given as under:

Rajasthan
Among the major growing districts the cumulative rainfall for past ten days was Ganganagar(37mm), Hanumangarh(40mm), Churu(32mm) , Bikaner(15mm) , Jaipur(38 mm), Sikar(35mm) , Jhunjhunu(35mm) , Jaiselmer(30mm) , Barmer(45mm) , Jodhpur(35mm) and Dausa( 54mm) and temperature ranges between 26-40 C . The weather conditions for the past ten days have been very much congenial for the sowing germination and establishment of the crop except for Bikaner where rainfall was very low.

Gujarat
The major guar producing districts received cumulative rainfall for ten days, Patan(59mm), Sabarkantha(53mm) , Mahesena(49mm) , Banaskantha(67mm) and Kachchh(106mm) which is very much congenial for the sowing germination and development of the crop. The temperature is also very much helpful.


Haryana
The widespread rainfall in the major growing districts Bhiwani, Mahendragarh, Rewari and Sirsa facilitated sowing and germination of the crop.
However, the recent flood in the Ghaggar have damaged the sown crop. Resowing may be taken after the withdrawal of the flood.
