Crop Weather Report 06/01/2010


Coffee
India
Current dry weather in the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerela continues in the next few days which will be beneficial for the coffee crop harvesting & post harvest activities.
In the lower elevation region in Karnataka,which grows arabica coffee,crop damage has been reported because of two-three inches of rainfall.

Colombia
Heavy rainfall caused damage of coffee crop in most parts of the country. The production is likely to reduce more than 25% in the country.

Brazil
Above-average rainfall during flowering season is likely to reduce yield.



Pepper
Harvesting and post harvesting activities of pepper continues in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerela and south Karnataka.
Current dry weather is expected to continue in the coming days which will facilitate the harvesting & post harvest activities in these areas.
Market arrivals show a nominal increase whereas increase of about 750 Rs/quintal in prices were noticed during 4th to 5th Jan 2010.

Barley

India
Rainfall received in the states of Madhya Pradesh, South Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are beneficial for the late sown barley crop.
It is also beneficial for the early sown barley crop which is in flowering stages.
Drop in day and night time temperature in the northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is conducive for the crop.
Market arrivals have decreased sharply whereas increase of about 55 Rs/quintal in prices were noticed during 4th to 5th Jan 2010.

Light rainfall in the northeastern part of the country caused some delay in harvesting activities.

Kazakhstan

Light rainfall in the southern part of the country is beneficial for the barley crop which is in growth stage.




Tea

India
Harvest and post harvest activities continues in the major growing belt of tea in Assam & Southern India.
Current dry weather is expected to continue in the coming days which will facilitate the harvesting & post harvest activities in the states of Tamilnadu, Karnataka & Kerala.
Earlier rains in December is conducive for higher yield in the above southern states.

Production of black tea in Srilanka is expected to be lower as compared to last year's around 318 million kg.
