Crop Weather Report 12/01/2010


Arhar
India
Post harvesting activities of early sown Arhar crop continues in the state of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Recent rains received in the southern part of the country will be beneficial for the long duaration arhar crop which is in flowering stage.
Expected light rainfall in the coming days in the states of east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Central India are conducive for the long duration arhar crop which is in flowering stage.
Light irrigation will be required to safeguard the arhar crop in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar against frost damage.

Burma
Harvesting and post harvesting activities of pigeon pea continues in Burma. The production of pigeon pea has dropped as compared to last year due to bad weather.




Mustard
India
Light rainfall expected in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana,Punjab,Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh will be conducive for the mustard crop which is in flowering and fruiting stages.
Post Harvest activities of early sown mustard has been completed.
Light rainfall in the states of Orissa and west Bengal are also conducive for the mustard crop which is in flowering stage.
High humidity,low temperature and foggy conditions may attract infection or diseases like whiterust and alternaria.

Harvesting of Canola continues in the eastern and southern part of the country. Recent rainfall in some parts of the country are conducive for the maturing crop.


Canada
Crushing activities reduced in the country due to falling temperatures. Harvesting and post harvest activities were delayed due to precipitation in the form of snowfall in west canada and the praries.



Jeera

India
Mild day time temperatures in the states of Gujrat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra are conducive for the jeera crop which is in vegetative stages.
However, the rainfall expected in north Rajasthan & northwest parts of the country will be beneficial for the jeera crop which is in reproductive stage.
Declining arrivals and good export demand is likely to firm up the prices of jeera in future.

Arrivals of Cumin seeds continue from Turkey. Widespread light to moderate rainfall caused concern for the matured crop which is in harvesting stages.

Syria

Adequate moisture levels along with normal temperatures were maintained by light to moderate rainfall in the country which is beneficial for the cumin crop which is in maturing stages.


Pepper

India
Harvesting and post harvesting activities of pepper continues in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerela and Karnataka.
Recent rainfall in these areas will have some adverse effect on the matured pepper crop. However, it will be beneficial for the pepper vines which are in maturing stages.
The production of pepper crop in Kerela is expected to fall as compared to last year's 20000 tonnes.

Vietnam
Heavy rainfall recieved in the parts of Vietnam caused delay in the harvesting of pepper crop. According to Vietnam Pepper Association pepper production may fall 5-7 percent this year.
