Arhar
Arhar crop requires average rainfall of 600-650 mm with moist conditions for the first eight weeks and drier conditions during flowering and pod development stage ,this will result in highly successful crop. Rains during flowering results in poor pollination.
Arhar crop grown successfully in summer, rainy and winter season, April-Summer, June-Kharif or rainy, September-Rabi or winter season.
A crop of semi-arid tropics tolerant to dry conditions because of well-developed deep root system. However, the critical growth stages are branching, flowering and pod filling where moisture stress causes adverse effect therefore in the absence of rains high irrigation is required.
Gujarat
In the major arhar producing districts [Dahod, Narmada, Surat, Bharuch] the rainfall(cumulative),temperature and RH in the last ten days were 119.9-360.7 mm,22.7-29.4 C and 92.1-92.7 %.The crop is in vegetative growth phase. The weather conditions particularly the rainfall ,humidity and temperature will boost more vegetative growth. Arhar is very much susceptible to water logging ,therefore excess rain water should invariably be drained out from the field, otherwise crop may be damaged.
Tamil Nadu
In the major arhar producing districts [Tiruvallur, Vellore, Erode] the rainfall(cumulative),temperature and RH in the last ten days were 17.0-49.9 mm,20.6-33.1 C and 74.9-80.6 %. The weather condition is favourable for the growth and initiation of the flowering.

Arhar is very much susceptible to water logging ,therefore excess rain water should invariably be drained out from the field, otherwise crop may be damaged.
Uttar Pradesh
In the major arhar producing districts [Barabanki, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Allahabad, Banda, Fatehpur, Kanpur, Aligarh] the rainfall(cumulative),temperature and RH in the last ten days were 38.7-286.6 mm,25.6-33.6 C and 83.5-93.4 %.Among the eastern Uttar Pradesh districts the crop is in vegetative phase. The continuance of humid and hot condition is favourable for vegetative growth of the crop.
Among the Western UP districts early arhar is sown in the end of May or first week of June .Due to continuation of humid hot condition and rainfall crop vegetative phase is prolonged.
Arhar is very much susceptible to water logging ,therefore excess rain water should invariably be drained out from the field, otherwise crop may be damaged.

Rainfall distribution of germination:--
First bud 35%, bud-flowering 45%, flowering-maturity 20%.

Groundnut
The crop can be grown successfully in places receiving a minimum rainfall of 1,250 mm. The rainfall should be well distributed well during the flowering and pegging of the crop. The total amount required for presowing operations (preparatory cultivation) is 100 mm; for sowing, it is 150 mm and for flowering and pod development an evenly distributed rainfall of 400-500 mm is required. The groundnut crop, however, cannot stand frost, long and severe draught or water stagnation.
