Basmati Rice

Basmati rice is transplanted in the first week of July among the districts of Punjab( Amritsar, Rupnagar, Patiala) and Haryana( Sirsa, Kaithal, Kurekshetra, Ambala, Karnal, Sonipat and Panipat) as the crop requires humid and moderate climate. The widespread rains and receding temperature is very much congenial for the tillering and growth of the crop.

Cardamom

Cardamom is cultivated above 2500-5000 ft msl under good drainage condition .The crop is in flowering which commences from April-May and continued upto July-August. Crop requires 1500-2250 mm well distributed rainfall, cool constantly moist but not water logged condition. Good drainage is required. The optimum temperature for the crop is 10-32 C.

Against the above requirement statewise details are given as under:

Kerala
Among the major districts of Kerala(Kasorgod, Palakkad ,Wayanad ,Iddukki and Pathanamthitta) the rainfall and temperature varied between 110-291 mm and 19-28 C . The late receipt of monsoon adversely affected the early flowering and fruit development . However, rainfall in June-July facilitated the development of fruit. The prevailing weather is favourable for the flowering and fruit development.

Karnataka
The major producing districts Shimoga, Chikmanglore, Hassan and Kodagu received rainfall and temperature which varied between 276-486 mm and 18-25 C.
The weather is favourable for the development of fruit from the late flowers. However, late receipt of monsoon affected the early flowering and fruit development .

Tamil Nadu
The mild rainfall received in the major growing districts of Tamil Nadu ( Coimbatore ,Nilgiris and Teni) between 20-185 mm which will be helpful for flowering and fruit development.
The weather condition as a whole is beneficial for the establishment of fresh transplanted saplings.

Wherever, high amount of rainfall received ,excess water should be drained out.

Onion
Kharif onion crop requires 10-11 hr. sunshine and 15-21 C for vegetative growth.

Maharastra
Among the districts(Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune and Satara) at present , the temperature is varying between 21-30 C. The cumulative rainfall received for the last ten days is in between 33-513 mm except in Ahmednagar where cumulative rainfall was only 33 mm. The prevailing weather condition is favourable for the transplanting of kharif crop and establishment of early planted crop. The forecasted weather is also favourable for the crop.
Excess rain water must be drained out from the transplanted field.

Karnataka
Among the districts (Dharwar, Bagalkot, Bijapur and Kolar) transplanting of onion is in progress .The temperature is varying between 21-28 C . The cumulative rain varied between 37-204 mm. The prevailing weather condition is favourable for fresh transplanting and development of transplanted crop seedling.

Transplanting of onion is done in April -May in Tamil Nadu and May- June in Andhra Pradesh. The prevailing weather condition are very much favourable for the growth of the crop. It is forecasted that both the states may get the rain which may boost the growth of the crop.

In the state of Gujarat and Rajasthan transplanting is taken from middle of August. The very heavy amount of rainfall received and forecasted heavy rain may adversely affect the nursery. Therefore, utmost care is to taken to drain out excess water from the nursery plots.
